Wimauma was named after the three daughters of Captain C.H. Davis in 1902 (Willie, Maud & Mary) by taking the first three letters from their names. Captain Davis helped to build the Seaboard Air Line Railroad connecting Turkey Creek & Bradenton in that same year. Wimauma recently joined the newly incorporated area known as the South Shore.
Wimauma is located 30 minutes south of Tampa and within a 40 minute drive to St. Petersburg and Sarasota. It also offers easy access to downtown Tampa, the airport and Macdill Air Force Base via I-75 & I-4 and US 41. Area attractions include Busch Gardens, Adventure Island Water Park, Lowry Park Zoo and of course, the wonderful Gulf Beaches. Shopping is a delight when looking for a bargain at the Prime Outlets at Ellenton.
