As they say in Oakland, Florida, "Welcome to Oakland". This friendly, unpretentious little town was incorporated in 1887. It's located approximately 17 miles west of downtown Orlando in Orange County. The once bustling Petris Avenue, which was the heart of downtown Oakland in the late 1800's and early 1900's, is now a quiet residential drive draped by beautiful ancient Live Oaks. Many of the Oakland residents commute to downtown Orlando or Walt Disney for their job while others work out of their homes in successful home based businesses.

Oakland does not want to grow into a large city. They want to keep their unique character by hanging on to the socioeconomic diversity that has contributed to that character.

Even though Oakland is not the perfect little "Old Florida" town, many of their residents certainly see it that way.
